School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, hosted by Near and Middle East Department, Middle East Society and Armenian Studies at SOAS.

17 March 2011

Armenian Christian communities are spread in over 10 countries in the Middle East today, numbering about 400,000 in total. This discussion, presented by Dr. Tchilingirian of Cambridge University and chaired by Professor Gilbert Achcar, will offer a brief discussion of some of the main internal and external problems facing the Armenian church and communities in the Middle East and then draw some conceptual conclusions as to how these processes affect identity construction, maintenance and preservation.

Dr. Hratch Tchilingirian is Associate Director of Eurasia Research Programme at Cambridge University’s Judge Business School. He has written and lectured extensively on sociological and geopolitical developments in wider Eurasia region, the Caucasus, as well as the Armenian Diaspora and politics of religion in the Middle East.
